Hyland adds versatility to NWCC’s class
One of the most unsung members of Lafayette’s Class 4A state champion football team was senior offensive lineman Adam Hyland. Rangers finish season No. 6 in nation
The MACJC North Division champion Northwest Rangers capped a stellar season with a No. 6 ranking in the final NJCAA Top 20 Football Poll of the season. It was the Rangers’ first Top 10 finish since the 1999 season when they also finished No. 6 in the nation. (December 9, 2010, Page 6)
Ranger WR White commits to La. Tech
The goal for Northwest Mississippi Community College wide receiver Myles White was to continue his college playing career in the South. Thanks to a stellar season with the Rangers that saw the Detroit native catch 53 passes for 712 yards and six touchdowns, White garnered offers from the likes of Louisiana Tech and Troy, as well as interest from Ole Miss.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound White, who started his career at Michigan State, visited Ruston, La., over the weekend and ultimately decided that becoming a Bulldog and playing under the direction of coach Sonny Dykes was too good to pass up. (November 24, 2010, Page 6A)

Area players needed at NWCC
AROUND THE SQUARE AND BEYOND: Northwest Mississippi Community College football coach Ricky Woods wants to win an MACJC state title in the worst way, but he needs the help of area players, and district players, to help him do it. The Rangers finished the 2010 season with a 9-1 overall mark, but a 52-24 loss to Gulf Coast last Saturday at Bobby Franklin Field was not the ending Woods was hoping for. Moore ends NWCC’s playoffs early
One of the most successful seasons for the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers and head coach Ricky Woods came to an unfortunate end Saturday in the first round of the MACJC state football playoffs.
No. 12 Gulf Coast, led by the passing of former Ole Miss walk-on quarterback Clayton Moore, defeated the No. 4 Rangers 52-24 in front of a crowd of 1,452 fans at Bobby Franklin Field. The Bulldogs (8-2 overall), who will now square off against Copiah-Lincoln for the MACJC state title next week, scored early and often against the Rangers (9-1), who entered the game with just four defensive linemen to try and stop one of the best offenses in all of the junior college ranks. No. 4 Rangers host No. 12 Bulldogs
A strong defensive unit that is anchored in the middle by nose guard John Jenkins is what the No. 4 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers will have to try and overcome when they host No. 12 Gulf Coast at Bobby Franklin Field.
NWCC (9-0 overall) is two wins away from winning the MACJC state title, but in order to face Co-Lin or East Mississippi in that title game Nov. 13, the Rangers will have dispatch the Bulldogs (7-2) in the first-round of the playoffs on Saturday. (November 5, 2010, Page 8A)
Rangers’ D paces team in latest win
Another strong defensive effort proved to be the difference in a win for the No. 7 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers on Thursday night at Bobby Franklin Field.
NWCC defeated Southwest 24-7 thanks in large part to a Ranger defense that held the Bears to under 200 total yards and out of the end zone until the game had been decided. It was the third straight game the Rangers (6-0 overall) held an opponent to a touchdown or less and under 200 yards. (October 8, 2010, Page 6A)
NWCC hosting Southwest
A week after taking a stranglehold on the MACJC North Division standings, the No. 7 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers will host Southwest tonight at Bobby Franklin Field. Kickoff for tonight’s game is set for 6:30 and the game can be heard locally on 93.7 FM.
The Rangers (5-0 overall) have played smothering defense over the last two weeks in wins over Coahoma and Northeast. NWCC has only allowed 13 points in those two wins, and only 32 points in three North Division games. (October 7, 2010, Page 6)
