Local players help NWCC capture title

Three former area high school baseball players helped lift the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers to a share of the MACJC North Division title on Saturday.

      Isom taking talents to NWCC’s hardwood

      Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia will be the next stop in the playing career of Lafayette High standout Shaquilla Isom. The 5-foot-7 combo guard signed on to play with the Lady Rangers on Tuesday evening in the LHS library after two full years of recruitment.

      NWCC assistant coach Shane Oakley has almost been to as many games as Isom has played in during that time period to get a better look and feel for a player that he feels will help the team immediately. (April 20, 2011, Page 2B)

        Former Lady ‘Dore helps lift NWCC to wins

        Former Lafayette High standout Stormy Robison helped lift Northwest Mississippi Community College to two wins over Holmes in women’s softball action Wednesday and a split with Northeast on Thursday. Robison, last season’s EAGLE Player of the Year, picked up a two-run single in the Lady Rangers’ 8-0 win over Holmes in the first game of Wednesday’s doubleheader as well as two runs scored.           Sullivan living his dream at Alabama

          A dream to play baseball in the Southeastern Conference has already been realized for former Oxford High standout Charley Sullivan. Now, the former Charger will get his chance to build on that dream by playing against the team he grew up watching, the Ole Miss Rebels, this weekend at Oxford-University Stadium as a relief pitcher for the Alabama Crimson Tide.               Oxford players ready to take next step in careers

              An unselfish attitude, versatility and overall physical skill are just some of the reasons why Oxford’s Monquarious Gipson and Tre’ Carothers are extending their football careers today. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Gipson signed to play for Northeast Mississippi Community College Wednesday, while the 6-1, 175-pound Carothers is heading off to play at ICC.                     LHS’s Dennis excited to join Lambuth

                    A chance to play a new position, as well as play for a four-year school relatively close to home, is what made Lafayette’s Austin Dennis chose Lambuth University Wednesday on National Signing Day. Dennis, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound tackle for the Class 4A state champion Commodores this season, said he was excited about the opportunity to play for the Jackson, Tenn., based school and play for Ron Dickerson, Sr., a well respected coach who was the head coach at Temple University. (February 3, 2011, Page 8)
