For the second time in three weeks and the fourth time this season a Northwest Mississippi Community College player has been honored by the NJCAA.

SUMMIT — Southwest Mississippi Community College broke a 14-14 tie with NWCC midway through the fourth quarter and never looked back Thursday night. The Bears ended up defeating the No. 18 Rangers 28-14 in the non-division matchup. The loss was the second in a row for NWCC (3-3 overall) and third in the last four games. Southwest, which improved to 3-3 with the victory, broke the tie with a 28-yard touchdown pas from Vintavious Cooper to Justin Hatcher at the 8:56 mark of the fourth quarter and then iced the game with a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown from Raheem Robinson with 3:12 left in the contest. In the first half, it was the Tigers that had everything rolling in their favor. A matchup of two top 15 junior college football teams will highlight the week’s matchups in the MACJC North Division on Thursday as the No. 10 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers (3-1 overall, 1-1 in North Division) play host to No. 15 Northeast (4-0, 2-0) at Bobby Franklin Field. When the junior college presidents of Mississippi decided late Tuesday that they were eliminating the protected recruiting list for all sports, getting rid of the current athletic districts and greatly reducing the amount of scholarships for out-of-state players, they all but killed junior college athletics in this state. Led by the passing of quarterback Ryan Mossakowski, the No. 9 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers defeated Coahoma 44-21. Mossakowski finished the night 18-for-29 for 339 yards and three touchdowns.
SENATOBIA — Thursday’s MACJC North Division opener for the No. 4 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers and the No. 8 East Mississippi Lions was as good as advertised.
A playoff atmosphere is what Northwest Mississippi Community College coach Ricky Woods expects when his No. 4 Rangers host No. 8 East Mississippi Thursday night at Bobby Franklin Field.
