All season the Lafayette volleyball team has battled sluggish starts.
Saturday’s Class 1 first-round playoff matchup at Caledonia was no different, but luckily for the Lady Commodores, they were able to overcome slow starts in all three games to claim a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-14) victory. (more…) (October 4, 2010, Page 4B)
Lafayette’s march towards a second-straight Region 2-4A title continued with another dominating performance on both sides of the ball Friday night. The No. 1 Commodores had their way from the start with the North Panola Cougars in a game that eventually turned into a one-sided 49-0 win.
LHS (7-0 overall, 3-0 Region 2-4A) has only been challenged for a half in its three region games so far this season, a fact that means the Commodores are actually playing more against themselves than the opponent on the field each week. (October 4, 2010, Page 5B)
Lafayette’s junior varsity boys and girls cross country teams finished first in the East Union/Mrytle Cross Country Challenge held Saturday at the New Albany Sportsplex. (more…) (October 4, 2010, Page 5B)

For a young Oxford squad, the tournament meant the end to what has been a difficult season with only one senior.
For Lafayette, the tournament — in which the Lady ‘Dores topped Oxford 2-0 (25-16, 25-11) and Tupelo 2-0 (25-20, 25-20) — was a good warmup for their first-round playoff match on Saturday at Caledonia. (October 1, 2010, Page 6A)
Region play starts to hit a new high for all three area high school football teams tonight. For the Lafayette Commodores, tonight’s road game at North Panola is the third Region 2-4A game of the season. For OHS, tonight’s matchup with the Clarksdale Wildcats in the first Region 1-5A game of the season, while the Water Valley Blue Devils will be playing their first Region 2-3A game of the year at Nettleton.
Kickoffs for all three games will be at 7 and all three can be heard locally on the radio. The Commodores and Cougars can be heard on 93.7 FM, the Chargers-Wildcats are on 95.5 FM, while the Blue Devils-Tigers are on 105.5 FM. (October 1, 2010, Page 6A)
Focus was a big reason for the Lafayette Commodores’ 52-0 win over Byhalia last Friday night. A week after getting off to a slow start against Center Hill, the Commodores jumped on the Indians quickly en route to the one-sided win.
For LHS coach Anthony Hart, whose team resumes Region 2-4A play Friday against North Panola (0-5, 0-1), the key is to not have a lack of focus hurt the No. 1 Commodores (6-0, 2-0). (September 30, 2010, Page 8)
Lafayette’s two middle school squads came up big on Tuesday sweeping Senatobia in two games. The Commodore seventh-grade squad squeaked past Senatobia 8-6, while the eight-graders topped the Warriors 30-6. (September 30, 2010, Page 9)
The Lafayette Lady Commodores volleyball team defeated Byhalia on Tuesday 3-0 (25-10, 25-7, 25-12). With the win, Lafayette secured its spot in the playoffs and will travel to Caledonia on Saturday. The match is set for 3 p.m. (September 29, 2010, Page 9)
