On a day when America took time out to remember fallen soldiers that lost their lives in battle, the 2011 senior class at Lafayette High School held a memorial service for one of their own.
An investigation on the part of the Office for Civil Rights has led to a public hearing regarding the demotion and re-assignment of former Lafayette High softball coach Cay Papagolos earlier this year.
The OCR is currently investigating whether the Lafayette County School District failed to provide equal athletic opportunities to participants in the girls’ athletics program at LHS and at the middle school. (more…) (May 31, 2011, Page 8)

Successful seasons on the baseball diamond has led to more accolades for a pair of cousins. Lafayette’s Josh Mills and Water Valley’s Walt McCullough were named to Coaches All-State baseball teams on Tuesday.
Mills, who helped lead the Commodores to a 23-7 overall mark in 2011 and the second round of the Class 4A playoffs, was named to the first team in 4A, while McCullough, who helped lead the Blue Devils to an 18-11 mark and a third-round appearance in the 3A playoffs, was also named to the first team in 3A. The Diamond Commodores’ stellar season may have come as a surprise to some, but anyone who watched Lafayette play this season won’t be surprised by the fact that senior Josh Mills will be playing at the next level.
