Lafayette’s McCullough now a NWCC Ranger

Lafayette High baseball standout Luke McCullough impressed the Northwest Mississippi Community College coaches enough this season and at a tryout to earn a spot on the Rangers’ team for next season. (May 27, 2010, Page 7)

LHS baseball camp June 1-4

The Lafayette Commodores will be hosting a camp for area youth June 1-4 at W.V. Brewer Field. The camp will run daily from 8 a.m. to noon and is available for children in grades 1-8. Lafayette will also be hosting a benefit golf tournament June 11 at The Country Club of Oxford. Cost to enter the tournament is $80 per person or $320 for a team. The tournament will start at 8:30 a.m.

LHS teams fare well in 4A meet

Lafayette wrapped up successful seasons on the track Monday with two top five finishes for the Commodore and Lady Commodore teams in the MHSAA Class 4A meet held at Pearl High School.

Lafayette’s boys garnered 44 points to finish in third place out of 33 teams, while Lafayette’s girls scored 47.50 to finish fourth out of 27 teams in the field. (May 19, 2010, Page 7)

LeGrand honored by Holmes Community College

Former Lafayette High standout D.J. LeGrand won the Most Improved Award this season from Holmes Community College for his standout season on the men’s basketball team. LeGrand helped the Bulldogs make the MACJC state tournament this season. (May 19, 2010, Page 7)

Class 4A state track meet to resume today

Rain shortened Saturday’s Class 2, 4 and 6A meets at Pearl High School. The meets were scheduled to resume today at 2.

WVHS, LHS ready for meets

Water Valley’s Montez Clark  and Justin McCammon could be the top two finishers in the shot put at today’s Class 3A state meet in Pearl. Clark finished first in the Region 2-3A meet and recently won the 3A North Half title. Clark, meanwhile, has finished second to McCammon in both events, while the scores of both should allow them to finish up the near the top in today’s meet. (more…) (May 14, 2010)

LHS answers questions in jamboree

A successful spring for the Lafayette Commodores, one that allowed coach Anthony Hart and his staff to answer some questions about next year’s team, came to an end last night with live action  at William L. Buford Stadium. (May 14, 2010, Page 7A)

Commodores named to Division 2-4A team

LHS hosting jamboree

William L. Buford Stadium will be the site of 2010 Lafayette Spring Jamboree Thursday night. The spring football event features the Commodores, Senatobia, Southaven, Kosciusko, New Albany and Aberdeen. Action will begin at 5 p.m., with Lafayette scheduled to match up with Southaven and then New Albany at 7. Each team will have 16 minutes of varsity offense and 16 minutes of varsity defense against each opponent. Each team will have 10 minutes of JV offense and 10 minutes of JV defense with each opponent. The ball in Thursday’s scrimmages will be placed at the 40-yard line going toward the goal line and then replaced on the 40 every time a team scores or fails to get a first down. The clock will not be stopped during the scrimmage, extra points may be kicked, and there will be no 2-point conversions and no timeouts. (May 12, 2010, Page 9)
