Lafayette and Water Valley split four games to open the middle school basketball season for both programs Tuesday in the WVHS gym. The seventh-grade Commodores defeated Water Valley 26-7, while the eighth-grade Blue Devils rallied to post a 15-13 win in the nightcap.

The price for Friday’s Class 4A football playoff game at William L. Buford Stadium has been set by the MHSAA at $7. The Lafayette Commodores rallied past the Rosa Fort Lions Friday night after a rather sluggish start to claim a 42-7 victory. The Commodores clinched first place in Region 2-4A with the important win over the Lions. (October 25, 2010, Page 4B)
Dominating. That’s what the Lafayette High girls and boys cross country teams were Saturday in a district tri-meet hosted at Center Hill.
The Lady Commodores recorded a perfect score as they won the first five slots. Lafayette’s boys also won the meet as they finished with 33 points.
Esmeralda Rodriguez led the Lady Commodores as she finished first on the two-mile course with a time of 12 minutes, 54 seconds. Paced by an outstanding individual effort from Esmeralda Rodriquez, the Lafayette cross country teams fared well in the Corinth Cross Country Invitational.
Rodriguez led the Lady Commodores to a third-place finish. Twenty five teams from all classifications in the state competed in the meet. Saltillo took first in the meet, while Pontotoc was second. (October 21, 2010, Page 9)
The 2nd annual Lafayette Baseball Golf Tournament will be held Saturday at the Ole Miss Golf Course. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. and run through the start time at 8 a.m. Cost is $60 per person to enter the four-man scramble.
