Halford throws no-hitter

Former Oxford pitcher Hunt Halford had quite the outing for the Tippah County Tribe of the Cotton States Baseball League on Saturday. Halford recorded a no-hitter in a 3-1 victory over the Golden Triangle Jets, allowing one run on one walk while striking out three in seven innings of work.

Former Lafayette Commodore Cody Gray took the loss, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out four in six innings. (June 28, 2011, Page 7)

    Judon having a bounce-back summer

    NEW ALBANY — Ole Miss’ Jimel Judon looks like a completely different batter on the diamond of the New Albany Sportsplex this summer.

    Judon’s stance is the same, but his production certainly is not.

    After recording just two hits in 36 at-bats last summer for the Tallahatchie Rascals of the Cotton States Baseball League, the former Myrtle standout is hitting .400 — good enough for third amongst league regulars — through nine games this season. (more…) (June 27, 2011, Page 6)

      Former ‘Dores lead Rascals to win

      Former Lafayette High standouts Matt and Kyle Webb collaborated with another former Commodore, Justin Smith, in a 5-3 win for the Tallahatchie Rascals over the Tupelo Thunder in Cotton States Baseball League action on Thursday night. Matt Webb and Kyle Webb each had a single in the win, with Matt Webb driving in a run. Smith had two hits and scored a run. Another former Commodore, Josh Mills, scored a run and a hit for the Thunder. (June 24, 2011, Page 6A)

          Jets down Dealers in CSBL

          Former Lafayette Commodore Cody Gray scored a run for the Golden Triangle Jets in their 9-7 win over the Dealers on Tuesday night at the New Albany Sportsplex. Another former area player, Water Valley’s Walt McCullough, collected a single, RBI and scored a run for the Dealers.             ‘Dores get a jumpstart on defending title

            BATESVILLE — There’s no better time to work on improving than the present.

                  LHS seeing improvement; OHS adapting to new bats

                  Thursday’s crosstown doubleheader between Oxford and Lafayette’s baseball teams provided plenty of positives and learning experiences for the two squads involved.

                    Plenty of new faces at LHS on Tuesday

                    Tuesday proved to be a busy evening at Lafayette High School.

                    Not only were each of the five baseball and softball teams filled with underclassmen looking to make their mark and get their shot at starting, but the Water Valley and Lafayette softball teams were also under the direction of new head coaches in Casey Clouse and Katie Moore respectively.
