Corinth rallies to top Commodores 17-14

For the first time since 2008, the Lafayette Commodores have opened their season with back-to-back losses. Nine penalties, three turnovers, and two missed field goals doomed Lafayette in a tight contest as a 23-yard field goal from Jake Curtis with 31 seconds remaining clinched a 17-14 win for Corinth on Friday night at William L.     Lady ‘Dores win region opener

    Lafayette high school volleyball coach Clint Jordan wanted to see more pressure put on the opposition with a faster pace of play. His Lady ‘Dores did just that, particularly in game one, in a 3-0 victory over Water Valley in the Class I-Region 2 opener for both teams Thursday evening at the LHS gym. (August 29, 2014, Page 3B)

          Oxford notches 3-0 win over Commodores

          The Oxford and Lafayette High volleyball teams reignited the Crosstown Rivalry for the first time this school year inside the Lafayette High gym Tuesday. The Chargers got the better of Lafayette in this installment with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-10, 25-21) victory. (August 27, 2014, Page 6)

            ‘Dores’ Williams signs with St. Francis

            The school year is not even a month old, and soccer season has not even started. But Lafayette senior goalkeeper Jamie Williams already knows where she will be playing next fall. Williams signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Tuesday at the Lafayette High library. (August 27, 2014, Page 6)

              Tupelo blanks Commodores in opener

              Lafayette ran 43 offensive plays in its season opener against Tupelo Friday night. The Golden Wave’s defense didn’t let the Commodores do much on any of them. Lafayette mustered just 91 yards of offense in a 20-0 loss to Tupelo at William L. Buford Stadium. Tupelo also forced the Commodores into three turnovers, including Demaris Wise’s 65-yard pick-six on the game’s final play, turning the matchup of state championship game participants from a season ago into a one-sided affair. (August 25, 2014, Page 8)
