        Tupelo upends Lafayette in opener

TUPELO — The Lafayette Commodores opened up the 2013 season just like they did in 2012, with a matchup against the Tupelo Golden Wave Friday night.

Area teams open 2013 seasons tonight

Tough pre-regional schedules are the rule rather than the exception for Oxford, Lafayette and Water Valley high schools as they open their 2013 slates tonight. Oxford hosts defending MAIS champion Jackson Prep, Class 4A Lafayette travels to Class 6A Tupelo and Class 3A Water Valley plays at defending Region 2-4A champion New Albany. The Lafayette Commodores open their 2013 season on the road Friday against a Class 6A foe when they travel to Tupelo.
