TUPELO — The Lafayette Commodores opened up the 2013 season just like they did in 2012, with a matchup against the Tupelo Golden Wave Friday night.
This year’s matchup was a far cry from the 8-3 defensive struggle that took place last season as Tupelo defeated the Commodores 36-21. (August 26, 2013, Page 3B)
Tough pre-regional schedules are the rule rather than the exception for Oxford, Lafayette and Water Valley high schools as they open their 2013 slates tonight. Oxford hosts defending MAIS champion Jackson Prep, Class 4A Lafayette travels to Class 6A Tupelo and Class 3A Water Valley plays at defending Region 2-4A champion New Albany. Lafayette’s dry run for the 2013 season went about as well as possible Friday evening. Led by a new quarterback and a completely remodeled defense, the Commodores defeated Amory 21-0 in last week’s jamboree at William L. Buford Stadium.
