Homemakers to host Holiday House

Holiday shoppers looking to take a break from the Square and department stores, and donate to a good cause, can take part in the 2010 Holiday House at the National Guard Armory from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. (November 17, 2010, Page 3)

      School Board OKs land deal

      The Oxford School Board approved a $2.56 million land purchase contract this afternoon for 65 acres, or $39,500 per acre, with Thomas Webb Avent and Murray Avent for land in Oxford Commons, located at Highway 7 and Sisk Avenue. The land will be used as the site for the new high school. An additional 10 acres was donated by the Avents to the school district. An additional $913,500 will be paid by the district to extend Sisk Avenue 1,500 feet into the Oxford Commons development.         How to keep dogs on a short leash?

        A new city leash law has been proposed but the Board of Aldermen on Tuesday sent the strictly worded law back to the drawing board in order to allow dogs to roam free on their own property and on a potential future dog park. (November 17, 2010, Page 1)

          Christmas shopping once was just a December occurrence, but then it moved up to begin on “Black Friday,” the day after Thanksgiving.               Friends say goodbye to Barber

              With his big eyes, surrounded by the kind of eye lashes most girls would envy, and his big dimpled smile, Jeremy Michael Barber earned the nickname “Gerber Baby,” during his years at Water Valley High School.

              Barber, who went by his middle name Michael, died on Sunday after losing control of his vehicle while driving home from a party Saturday night on Highway 32 in Water Valley. He was 19 years old. (November 16, 2010, Page 2A)

                    McBride to run for transit seat

                    State Rep. Warner McBride has announced his intent to fill the position of Transportation Commissioner for the Northern District of Mississippi in a special election to be held on January 11. The position was opened after the late Bill Minor, who was elected Transportation Commissioner in 2003, died on Nov. 1. (November 16, 2010, Page 1A)
