Oxford students qualify for state science fair

Students at Oxford schools qualified for the state science competition after the regional fair held March 22 in Oxford. Three Oxford Learning Center students will move on to the state challenge and Della Davidson Elementary received best in show. (March 29, 2011, Page 6)

        Miss-I-Sippin’ returns to Powerhouse

        Little by little, Oxford is beginning to make a name for itself as a place to eat. Although we’ve lost several restaurants, we’ve added many new ones, and nowhere is the sheer plenitude of the town’s great eats more evident than at events such as the upcoming annual Miss-I-Sippin’ from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center. (March 28, 2011, Page 1A)

            Local events receive funds from Tourism Council

            Several local events received funding this past Wednesday from the Oxford Tourism Council. The Oxford Shakespeare Festival received $1,000 as did the Swamp Stompers. The Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce’s Double Decker Run received $3,000. The Yocona Festival did not receive funding. (March 28, 2011, Page 2A)

              Domestic Violence agency must ‘cease, desist’

              The Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office has issued a summary “cease and desist” order against Oxford’s Domestic Violence Project for continuing to solicit donations after failing to renew its charitable registration and owing more than $156,000 in back taxes to the IRS. (March 28, 2011, Page 1A)
