Marking Memorial Day

Local veterans are asking area residents to help them remember those who have made the greatest sacrifice while serving their country.
The annual Memorial Day Recognition Ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the National Guard Armory, located off the Sisk Avenue exit of Highway 7 N. (May 28, 2010, Page 1A)

    City: Rework interchange

    After working for more than 12 years on a plan to construct a massive interchange to improve the dangerous West Jackson Avenue-Highway 6 intersection, city and state officials said Wednesday it’s time to start over.

    At a special meeting held in Batesville, members of the Oxford Board of Aldermen and representatives of the Mississippi Department of Transportation agreed to consider scaling down the project. (May 27, 2010, Page 1, 5)

      Talks continue on hospital’s future

        OPD makes five arrests in separate burglaries

        The Oxford Police Department arrested five people in connection with several local burglaries.
        “Our detectives have been working nonstop,” Assistant Chief Joey East said. “We’re really proud of them. It shows their dedication and effort.” (May 27, 2010, Page 5)

              Former Oxford business owner jailed, extradited to Tennessee

              Details are limited in the arrest of a former Oxford businessman who was picked up by the U.S. Marshal’s Service  on Wednesday and extradited to Tennessee.
              Patrick E. Clark, 40, was discovered in New Albany by U.S. Marshals and brought to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he remained until the weekend.

                  Grads say goodbye

                  The graduates of Lafayette and Oxford high schools celebrated over the weekend as their journey through grade school came to a close.
                  Both graduation ceremonies were held at  C.M. “Tad” Coliseum on the University of Mississippi campus; Lafayette ’s was held Friday night and Oxford’s was on Saturday afternoon. (May 24, 2010, Page 1A)

                    Double days for Double Decker

                    After a rainstorm caused Double Decker Arts Festival organizers to change to a two-day event this year, the positive feedback led the Tourism Council to approve turning the festival into a planned two-day event for April 29-30, 2011. (May 21, 2010, Page 1A, 2A)
