City gets $500K windfall
State officials presented Oxford leaders with an unexpected gift of more than half a million dollars in road funds. But the windfall comes with a catch: the city must find a way to spend the dollars by May 28. Too many signs in Square businesses?
The Oxford Board of Aldermen are considering a revised sign measure for the Downtown Business District that would limit businesses to one four square feet illuminated sign within a three-foot radius from any exterior window. Language in neighborhood business zoning that allowed for amusement-type businesses, such as a movie theater or bowling alley, is recommended to be removed by the Planning Commission. The Board of Aldermen will have to vote to remove the language. (April 13, 2010, Page 2A)
