Laurie Triplette writes to say that the Confederate flag’s symbolism has been hijacked by various groups and now is not appropriate for the state of Mississippi, while D.W. Steel urges the state to return to using the “Magnolia Flag” that was in use before the current one was adopted in 1894.

    An Open Letter

    Oxford Mayor George G. “Pat” Patterson writes an open letter to the public taking a stance on the Mississippi state flag. Patterson writes that it is time to drop what is a divisive symbol and move on to a flag that everyone can be proud of and that represents what the vast majority of Mississippians are thinking today. (June 24, 2015)
