State approves Tech changes

A joint request by the Oxford and Lafayette County School District to make changes to the joint agreement for the Oxford-Lafayette School of Applied Technology was approved this morning by the State Board of Education. (October 22, 2010, Page 1)

    Students prepare to celebrate Red Ribbon Week

    Next week students at local schools will be celebrate Red Ribbon week, the largest and oldest drug prevention program in the nation.

    At Oxford University School, students will celebrate all week by wearing red silly Bandz bracelets that spell “Rock” to represent OUS students making healthy choices. (October 19, 2010, Page 3)

      UM fraternity feeds young students

          Oxford University School seeks accreditation

          Tommy Naron, the new headmaster at Oxford University School said he is excited to join the staff and help the school to the next level – such as working on gaining accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement. (October 12, 2010, Page 5)

            Commons zoning allows school and hospital

            BREAKING NEWS — The Planning Commission on Monday night approved rezoning changes to the over 500 acre Oxford Commons to allow for a potential healthcare location and potential school zone. While developer Kenny Farrell said both Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi and Oxford School District were considering the locations, they were in no way confirmed but were one of several sites being considered for both major projects. (October 11, 2010)

              School bond issues detailed

              A town hall meeting to discuss the upcoming Oxford School District Bond referendum will be held on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Oxford High School Cafeteria. This will be the only town hall meeting set before the Oct. 26 vote for $30 million in bonds to renovate local schools and build a new high school. (October 11, 2010, Page 1, 5a)

                Lafayette schools target test scores

                After being put on academic watch this year, Lafayette School District is overhauling teaching methods to get scores up for the next round of state testing that begins in March. At each school, new strategies are being implemented to improve test scores and to better track student progress. (October 5, 2010, Page 1, 2)

                  OHS Charger named finalist in competition

                  The Charger, Oxford High School’s newspaper, was named one of 54 finalists in the Newspaper Pacemaker competition. The winner will be announced in Kansas City on Nov. 13. (October 5, 2010, Page 5)
