Oxford High School Theatre students will compete with “Antigone” at the regional level after coming in as runner up last week at the Mississippi Theatre Association competition in Tupelo. The Oxford School Board approved the contract to purchase 75 acres of land for $3,481,000 near the Oxford Commons on Thursday. The city will purchase 65 acres and pay for the road development with the owners to donate an additional 10 acres. The closing date for the purchase is Wednesday. (January 21, 2011, Page 1A)
Several parents expressed their concerns Tuesday with Lafayette High School officials considering implementing a four-by-four block schedule next school year.
Lafayette County School Board officials were present at the meeting held at the Lafayette Middle School to hear the parents’ reactions and questions about the new class scheduling system.
Both Lafayette and Oxford School District have adjusted the calendar to make up for snow days this winter.
Oxford will now meet on April 25 and May 20 as well as a half day on May 23.
Lafayette will now meet on Feb. 21, May 23 and a 60 percent day on May 24. (January 18, 2011, Page 7)

Regents of Oxford recently named Britt Dickens as the new headmaster for the school. Dickens has over 25 years in educational leadership and additional 10 in teaching K-12. (January 11, 2011, Page 5)
