Broadcast program takes off at OHS

Oxford High School students are now on the air with the new broadcast journalism program that began this year. The program is an initiative by the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association and the UM Meek School of Journalism and New Media. (November 30, 2010, Page 6)

        City Schools get 75 acres

        Oxford School District will build a new $31 million high school near Della Davidson Elementary School in the Oxford Commons Area located at Highway 7 and Sisk Avenue. The school board approved a contract Wednesday to spend nearly $3.5 million for 75 acres and to extend Sisk Avenue. (November 18, 2010, Page 1)

          School Board OKs land deal

          The Oxford School Board approved a $2.56 million land purchase contract this afternoon for 65 acres, or $39,500 per acre, with Thomas Webb Avent and Murray Avent for land in Oxford Commons, located at Highway 7 and Sisk Avenue. The land will be used as the site for the new high school. An additional 10 acres was donated by the Avents to the school district. An additional $913,500 will be paid by the district to extend Sisk Avenue 1,500 feet into the Oxford Commons development.             Lafayette County students in the spirit of giving

            Lafayette County School District adopted the Operation Christmas Child program this year with elementary schools students raising money for the program and Lafayette High School students collecting items for the shoeboxes.                 WV teen killed in weekend wreck

                A Water Valley High School graduate was killed late early Sunday morning when his vehicle ran off the road for unknown reasons.

                Jeremy Michael Barber, 19, was pronounced dead by Yalobusha County coroner Ronnie Stark just after midnight Sunday on Highway 32 East.

                Barber suffered massive trauma during the one-vehicle wreck. It was unknown this morning what caused Barber to lose control of his vehicle. (November 15, 2010, Page 2A)

                  Food to go packed with love

                    OHS stages comedy of manners

                    Oxford High School presents “She Stoops to Conquer,” a comedy of manners or satire about social class this weekend. Opening on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., the play stars a range of performers from avid theatre actors to newcomers to the stage. (November 10, 2010, Page 1)
