Local physicists part of Higgs boson discovery

When researchers with the CERN facility in Geneva, Switzerland, announced the discovery of the Higgs boson subatomic particle earlier this month, the news was hailed as one of the most significant scientific achievements in a generation. Yet, if you look closely enough at the nearly two decades of scientific research and testing that was primarily conducted some 5,000 miles away from Oxford, you’ll find the work of some local physicists. (July 30, 2012, Page 1)

                    OSD adopts sex ed policy

                    The Oxford School Board turned around on an earlier vote to make the middle school have an abstinence plus education program along with the high school. Both policies also now have language requiring the curriculum to be chosen from a list approved by both the state and federal health departments. Over 300 parents signed a petition and over 45 attended Monday’s board meeting to show their support for plus education. (June 26, 2012, Page 1, 12)
