County schools OK $23.7M budget

School board upholds coach’s firing
A final decision in the reassignment and non-renewal of Lafayette High softball coach Catherine Papagolos was reached Monday evening by the Lafayette County School Board.
In a unanimous decision following a 42-minute executive session meeting, the board elected to follow through with a recommendation made by LHS Athletics Director Jeff Nelson back in March to not renew Papagolos as the team’s head coach for the 2012 season. (June 28, 2011, Page 1)

On a day when America took time out to remember fallen soldiers that lost their lives in battle, the 2011 senior class at Lafayette High School held a memorial service for one of their own.
LHS grad, 19, killed in wreck
Demetrius Owens, 19, of Lafayette County was killed Friday morning when the car he was a passenger in overturned, throwing him out of the vehicle. Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home of Oxford. (more…) (May 27, 2011)
