City budget hearing set today
Oxford Board of Aldermen will hold a public hearing on the 2012 budget at 6 p.m. today. The city is proposing a $21.6 million budget with no increases in taxes. (September 6, 2011, Page 1)
More rain expected today
Tropical Storm Lee dumped about 6 inches of rain in Oxford and Lafayette County Sunday. The LOU area could see an additional 4 inches of rain today as the storm moves northeast. No major flooding has been reported thus far. (September 5, 2011, Page 1A)

UPDATE — After filing a freedom of information request on Friday, The Oxford EAGLE was able to obtain footage from Monday, Aug. 22 outside the Lyric as previously discussed in “More Cops Hired for Square.”
Footage obtained shows a large crowd after rushing out of the Lyric onto Van Buren Avenue that then blocked traffic.

Storm UPDATE
If traveling in or out of Oxford on Sunday, leaving early is your best chance to avoid the storm, Oxford Emergency Management Coordinator Jimmy Allgood said on Friday afternoon. National Weather Service updated the storm to advance on Oxford Sunday afternoon and then possibly stall until Tuesday with up to 45 mph winds and significant rainfall if the storm moves to the east of Lafayette County. The storm could worsen if it moves to the west of us. Rain and significant winds are expected to begin Sunday morning for the area. (September 2, 2011)
Support builds for new shelter
The community has rallied to get the ball rolling for a new domestic violence shelter in Oxford. Organization heads have offered help and support to the newly formed board of Directors of the proposed, future Patricia Edwards Aschoff Shelter for Family Violence. (September 2, 2011, Page 1A)
Old Walmart space to get $3.2M upgrade
The University of Missisippi will spend up to $3.2 million to renovate the old Walmart space to add a math lab and additional meeting space this fall. (September 2, 2011, Page 1A)
County to launch public transit service
Lafayette County and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program have teamed up to offer county residents who are more than 65 years old or disabled, free transportation to grocery stores, doctor’s appointments, etc. The program begins Tuesday. Call 232-2377 to schedule a ride. (September 1, 2011, Page 1)
