    Jim Dandy’s Black Oak Arkansas returns to Rooster’s Blues House March 10

    OXFORD TOWN – James “Jim Dandy” Mangrum (pictured here)  returns to Rooster’s Blues house this Saturday (March 10) for an acoustic performance of the songs that have defined the band since the mid-1960s. Don’t miss this rare chance to catch the timeless fusion of two rock ‘n’ roll legends – Black Oak Arkansas and Jim Dandy.       TMR gets ‘Witchy’ tonight at Off Square Books on March 10

      OXFORD TOWN – Thacker Mountain Radio returns to Off Square Books this evening at 6 with tales of the supernatural. Thacker’s visiting author will be Jonathan Odell (“The Healing”) who will conjure a witchy woman from the Civil War. Musical guests will be the Pine Hill Haints (pictured here) and the Bonfire Orchestra.         Artist/musician Jon Langford visits TMR, Soutshide Gallery and Two Stick Sushi Bar

        OXFORD TOWN – Artist, musician and “Champion of misfits” Jon Langford is set for performances and art exhibitions all over Oxford this weekend, beginning with Thacker Mountain Radio tonight (Thursday, March 1) at Off Square Books. Pages 7 and 12 in Oxford Town No. 968 has tons of  information about the native Welshman who now calls Chicago home. And, if you can’t make the TMR broadcast this evening, plan to hit Two Stick on Friday, March 2, for an acoustic performance by Langford who is in town supporting an exhibit of his works at Southside Gallery. (March 1, 2012, Page 7, 12)

          Kinky Friedman set for TMR and Proud Larry’s tonight (Thursday, Feb. 23)

          OXFORD TOWN – In the 2006 race for Texas governor, Kinky Friedman, best-selling mystery novelist and musician, came in a close fourth on the ticket. Luckily for us (these days), Kinky is free. Free to tour and sip tequila and write books (a new mystery with Billy Bob Thornton) and record songs, including an upcoming album with Willie Nelson. Friedman is in town today (Thursday, Feb. 23) and is scheduled to appear on Thacker Mountain Radio at 6 p.m. at Off Square Books and later tonight at Proud Larry’s.             EDUganda benefit set for The Blind Pig this Friday

            OXFORD TOWN – EDUganda (formerly Hope for Africa established in 2007) is an organization touting a mission of providing basic opportunities to the people of Uganda — more specifically, ensuring that Ugandan children are given access to quality education. On Friday night (Feb 24), The Blind Pig will play host to a concert benefitting the humanitarian group. Local bands Aerial Attack and The Da Vincis will provide the jam.                 Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors return to Proud Larry’s

                OXFORD TOWN – Turn to Page 7 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town (No. 966) to see what Drew and the gang have been up to since their last visit to Oxford in April of last year. Hint: Even if you already possess the band’s latest album, “Chasing Someday,” you’ll definitely want to revisit the new version.
