Shakespeare Festival continues with ‘The Sound Of Music’
OXFORD TOWN – Rodgers and Hammerstein’s enduring musical, “The Sound of Music,” opens June 28 as part of the 2012 Oxford Shakespeare Festival. Dent May’s New Album ‘Do Things’ Gets Fun(ky)
OXFORD TOWN – The ukelele-clutching Oxonian who crooned about post-college living and all its velvety splendor has returned. Actually he never went anywhere but it’s been three years since Dent May’s first album, “The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukelele,” caught the attention of college radio stations and major music publications nationwide. But now, he’s back in the game with a brand spankin’ new album titled “Do Things.” Turn to page 7 in Oxford Town No. 983 for a special album review of “Do Things” by former Oxford Town Editor Mitch Morgan. “This is your summer soundtrack, Oxford. Maybelle’s Lovers set for the Sunset Series this Sunday evening

Catch them in the friendly confines of our beloved Grove this Sunday evening (June 17) at 7 for the Summer Sunset Series — and, as a warmup, be sure to catch them at Avent Park this Friday night (June 15) for OPC’s weekly production of Movies in the Park (music also begins at 7 for that family-friendly event). Grace Potter, Flaming Lips set for record breaking show at the Lyric Theater
OXFORD TOWN – The Flaming Lips will rock Oxford during their Highway 61 tour as part of the Guiness World Records title for the most live concerts in 24 hours. Grace Potter (pictured) & The Nocturnals will open the show at the Lyric Theater on June 27. Silas Reed ‘N’ Da Books set for The Grove this Sunday

Hook Silas up with a top-notch funk band (Da Books) and a person can’t keep his/her feet still — can’t help but move — and move like they mean it. Catch OHS graduate and Ole Miss DJ/musician Silas Reed (pictured)) ‘N’ Da Books this Sunday evening (June 10) as the popular local funk band continues June’s Summer Sunset Series in the Grove. The family-friendly, free concerts begin at 7 and end (approximately) as the sun sets on the most famous and beautiful patch of green in the South — The Grove on the Ole Miss campus. Joseph Arthur rocks Proud Larry’s Saturday, June 2
The Akron, Ohio, native, Joseph Arthur (pictured), has dug deeply into the lyrical world and is bringing his vast catalog of songs to Oxford for a show at Proud Larry’s on Saturday (June 2). Doors open at 8 p.m and Arthur is scheduled to take the stage at 9:45. Tickets for the show are $12 and are being sold online at proudlarrys.com.
