Mississippi native Hilda Stuart, mother of country music star Marty Stuart, is embarking on her own tour in support of her new photography book, “Choctaw Gardens.” Hilda and the rest of the Stuart family will be at Off Square Books on Wednesday to sign and show off the collection on photographs. Yocona International Folk Festival returns to Powerhouse, Ford Center
OXFORD TOWN – Visitors can immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and tastes from all over the world as a multitude of diverse cultures, languages, food, and musical performances collide at the sixth annual Yocona International Folk Festival. Page 7 in Oxford Town No. 991 has details about this year’s festival that officially begins with a kickoff event to be held in Oxford on Saturday, Aug. 11. The event — International Marketplace Day — is set for the Powerhouse Community Arts Center beginning at 10 a.m. featuring tons of music, food, drink, dance and handicrafts from Peru, Egypt and other places. OXFORD TOWN – Based out of Austin, Texas, Ali Holder and Daniel Thomas Phipps will be coming through Oxford as a stop on their southeast tour. They’re set for Proud Larry’s next Thursday (Aug. 9) at 9:45 p.m. Both musicians are established in their own right, with their own bands, but they come together on this tour as a singer-songwriter collaborative duo and the results are guaranteed to please any folk/rock/blues/Americana fan.
