    Harvard Glee Club set for free show at Ford Center

    OXFORD TOWN – The University of Mississippi’s Ford Center for the Performing Arts will host the Harvard Glee Club on March 19 at 8 p.m. Page 5 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town has information about the 60-voice Harvard Glee Club, the oldest college chorus in America, as it prepares for a free evening of entertainment at the Ford Center. (March 18, 2011, Page 5)

      LeVere, Mize tag team Oxford this Saturday

      OXFORD TOWN – Cheyenne Marie Mize and Amy LaVere (pictured) will share a bill this Saturday (March 12) at Proud Larry’s, one of Oxford’s most beloved music venues. Mize, based out of Louisville, Ky., and Memphian LaVere, are guaranteed to bring a classic dose of folk music to Oxford and the Proud Larry’s stage this Saturday night. Doors for the show open at 7 p.m. and music is set to begin at 8.         Thacker Mountain Radio collaborates with University Museum

        OXFORD TOWN – Thacker Mountain Radio will broadcast from the Lyric Theatre this Thursday from 6-7 p.m. Following the broadcast, a documentary film will be screened depicting the unique history of the Gee’s Bend Quilters and the singers from Alabama. Page 9 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town has details about this week’s collaborative effort between TMR and the University Museum featuring artists and singers from Gee’s Bend, Ala., and author Andre Dubus touring in support of his new memoir “Townie.” (March 10, 2011, Page 9)

            L-O-U Symphony entertains kids then adults on March 7

            OXFORD TOWN – The Department of Music at the University of Mississippi is presenting its second concert of the 2010-2011 season on Monday, March 7, at 11:30 a.m at the Ford Center. The concert is titled L-O-U Symphony Student Soloists Concert. The concert is held especially for students in elementary grades and is under the direction of Dr. Ronald Vernon. Admission to the concert is free, however, participants will be responsible for transportation. Ample bus parking is available. At 8 p.m., the orchestra will present its Soloists Concert for the public to enjoy. Pages 4 and 5 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town have further details.

              Annual Living Blues Symposium kicks off this weekend

              OXFORD TOWN – On this week’s cover; Blues Today: A Living Blues Symposium kicks off tonight at 6 with a special blues-themed edition of Thacker Mountain Radio.
