Blackbird Hour to rock the Grove this Sunday

OXFORD TOWN – The Sunset Series in the Grove rolls on this week, featuring a new project fronted by local musicians Brad Hayden and Dave Woolworth called The Blackbird Hour.  Page 11 of this week’s Oxford Town has Kate Anthony’s coverage of one of the new bands in town that’s literally popping up everywhere.       Sunset Series rolls on with the Swinging Prevaricators this Sunday

      The Summer Sunset Series continues this Sunday (June 13) after a hugely successful opening performance by the Mississippians Jazz Combo last week in the Grove. YAC’s Oxford Songwriter’s Showcase had to cancel for this Sunday but the new band, The Swinging Prevaricators, is filling in.           Exhibit reception: Amy Wilson

          Drawings, paintings and handmade books by acclaimed artist Amy Wilson will be on display at the University of Mississippi Museum this spring. An opening reception, sponsored by Lenora’s Restaurant, is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the museum, at Fifth Street and University Avenue. (March 19, 2010, Page 8B)

            Exhibit: ‘The space between us’

            OXFORD TOWN – The Jersey City-based artist Amy Wilson is slated to visit Oxford at the opening reception for her exhibit at the University Museum on Tuesday, March 23, from 5-7 p.m. Her exhibit is entitled “The space between us.” Oxford Town writer Alexander McAdams gets the scoop on Wilson’s art and reception straight from the curator of the University Museum William Andrews. (March 11, 2010, Page 10)

              ‘Interaction’ Arts Sampler

              PHOTOS — The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council hosted a sampling of Oxford’s visual and performing arts Saturday at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center. It featured a performance by Oxford Ballet Company; three improv plays by LaffCo; a poetry reading by Danielle Sellers and Mark Adamec; visual arts exhibits by Oxford artists and music by The Sleeping Bulls and the Oxford Songwriters Association. (March 8, 2010, Page 1A)

                Art lovers to gather at the Powerhouse; Oxford arts displayed and ‘sampled’ at ‘Interaction’ event

                OXFORD TOWN — The Powerhouse is hosting its first annual art sampler called ‘Interaction’ on Saturday at 7 p.m. The event is hosted by Yoknapatawpha Arts Council, Ballet Oxford and the Oxford Songwriters Association. (March 2, 2010, Page 5)

                  Double Decker: Prepare to party

                  The Oxford Convention and Visitors Bureau has released its full music lineup for the 15th annual Double Decker Arts Festival on April 24. Along with headliners Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, music acts will include: the Felice Brothers, Jimbo Mathus, Mayhem String Band, Those Darlin’s, Young Buffalo, Captain Midnight, Group Fantasma, Cornmeal, Wiley and the Checkmates, My Name is John Michael, A.A.                     Community unites with Ole Miss

                    OXFORD TOWN – Community members recently participated in the “Tag You’re It!” program with the help of Ole Miss art students. The mural created at the event will hang on the side of the Powerhouse as a beacon identifying the facility as an art center.  (February 24, 2010, Page 16)
