Oxonian/author Julie Cantrell (gracing the OT cover) is having her first novel published next week (Feb. 1) and Off Square Books is hosting a launch party on Tuesday, Jan. 31, at 5 featuring Cantrell, champagne and chocolate – NICE!; OT editor Jeff McVay takes a final sneak peek at the 2012 lineup for the Oxford Music Festival set to begin Feb. 9; a Chinese ceramic art exhibit titled “On the Silk Road and the High Seas” is showing at the University Museum and a lecture by Virginia L. Bower is planned for 7 p.m. Jan. 26; Internationally acclaimed operatic soprano Kallen Esperian will be featured in a concert at the Gertrude Ford Center on Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.; Oxford Town gives an early heads up about a fantastic concert headed to Proud Larry’s in March – the Alabama Shakes; and the Oxford Film Freak (Melanie Addington) begins her pre-coverage of the 2012 Oxford Film Festival set (also) for Feb. 9 at the Malco Studio Cinema.       Chinese Ceramics displayed at UM Museum

      OXFORD TOWN – The University of Mississippi Museum examines ancient Chinese ceramics and the culture of their time with its latest exhibition, “On the Silk Road and the High Seas: Chinese Ceramics, Culture and Commerce,” which will be on display from now through Aug. 4. Coinciding with the exhibition, the museum will host a lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, featuring Virginia L. Bower (pictured here).         Oxford ‘crawls’ to art

        OXFORD TOWN – The Oxford Art Crawl begins its 2012 season this Tuesday (Jan. 24). The ongoing event will be held the fourth Tuesday of each month from January through October, lasting from 7-9 p.m. The “crawl” events are free and offer tours of the rotating exhibits at Oxford’s art spaces with small receptions held at each stop.           Oxford Fiber Arts Festival returns

          OXFORD TOWN – Oxford’s second Fiber Arts Festival is set to re-launch this weekend at the Powerhouse touting activities fro the whole family. The event is hosted by Knit1 Oxford and the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council.             Southside Gallery features artists Jere Allen, Ron Dale

            OXFORD TOWN – Southside Gallery is now exhibiting paintings by local artist and former University of Mississippi painting professor Jere Allen and new sculptures (pictured here) by local artist and former University of Mississippi ceramics professor Ron Dale.               ‘One Night Stand’ returns to Ole Miss Motel

              OXFORD TOWN – The concept of the fifth annual “One Night Stand” art exhibit is when 15 artists take over 12 rooms at the Ole Miss Motel, swapping out the standard motor-in landscapes for their own paintings and photographs and essentially becoming the curator of their own small gallery. Details of the popular event to be held on Oct. 29 can be found on Page 16 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town by Lifestyles Columnist George Atkins. (October 27, 2011, Page 16)
