Faulkner’s popularity extends beyond books

COMPLETE STORY — Fifty years after the death of Williams Faulkner, the Oxford writer’s work continues to be popularity. The Modern Library is reissuing six of his books this year and Hollywood is showing renewed interest in transferring his work from the page to the screen.

Local film production plans fall apart

Filmmakers for the movie “Admissions” have turned down a grant to film in Oxford. A story in the New York Times recently lists the movie, starring Andy Garcia and Meg Ryan, as filming in Connecticut. (April 27, 2012, Page 1A)

Hollywood South revisits Oxford Film Festival 2012

OXFORD TOWN – Hollywood South syndicated columnist Jamie O’Quinn (pictured here) takes a fond look back at the 2012 Oxford Film Festival held last month at the Malco Studio Cinema. It’s her opinion that while the selection of films chosen for viewing (at OFF) is an integral part of a festival, it’s the people in attendance who are the greatest attraction. “From film producers, directors, screenwriters, musicians, actors, crew to volunteers, the interactions with these creative and passionate people remain the most intriguing part of the experience,” O’Quinn states in her column. ‘Admissions” film delayed

The filming of the major motion picture, “Admissions,” in Oxford and on the University of Mississippi campus has been delayed, according to the film’s writer, due to scheduling issues. (March 2, 2012, Page 2A)

‘Viktor and I’ to be screened at UM

The “Viktor and I” documentary will be he screened on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Brevard Hall at UM along with a Q&A with the film’s director and producer. The film is about the life of Viktor Frankl, a well known psychologist. (February 20, 2012, Page 3a)

Movie crews set to arrive next week

Movie crews for the film, “Admissions” are expected to start arriving next week, according to Mary-Katherine Herrington, tourism director for the Oxford Convention and Vistors Bureau. (February 16, 2012, Page 5)
