Dean Faulkner Wells releases memoir

OXFORD TOWN – Local author Dean Faulkner Wells releases and signs her memoir about growing up Faulkner titled “Every Day By The Sun” on Saturday, March 19, at the Lyric Theater. Authors Franklin, Pendarvis, Durkee, Thompson and others are scheduled read from the book.     Thacker Mountain Radio collaborates with University Museum

    OXFORD TOWN – Thacker Mountain Radio will broadcast from the Lyric Theatre this Thursday from 6-7 p.m. Following the broadcast, a documentary film will be screened depicting the unique history of the Gee’s Bend Quilters and the singers from Alabama. Page 9 in this week’s issue of Oxford Town has details about this week’s collaborative effort between TMR and the University Museum featuring artists and singers from Gee’s Bend, Ala., and author Andre Dubus touring in support of his new memoir “Townie.” (March 10, 2011, Page 9)

      Annual Living Blues Symposium kicks off this weekend

      OXFORD TOWN – On this week’s cover; Blues Today: A Living Blues Symposium kicks off tonight at 6 with a special blues-themed edition of Thacker Mountain Radio.         Author Mark Richard set for Off Square Books next Wednesday (Feb. 23)

        OXFORD TOWN – Author Mark Richard will be in Oxford on Wednesday, Feb. 23, hosting a book signing and reading at Off Square Books in support of his recently released memoir, “House of Prayer No. 2: A Writer’s Journey Home.” Page 5 in this issue of Oxford Town has full details about the former Grisham writer-in-residence’s return to Oxford next week.           Thacker Mountain Radio returns to Off Square Books

          OXFORD TOWN – This week, Thacker Mountain Radio will be back at Off Square Books to celebrate the great migration of black Americans in the mid-20th Century when they left the Jim Crow South in pursuit of a life with dignity. The broadcast will feature author Isabel Wilkerson (pictured) and musical guests The Mighty Gospel Warriors.
