Rebels hold on for 5-4 win
TUSCALOOSA —It wasn’t the prettiest win, but the Rebels’ five runs in the first three innings were just enough to overcome seven walks by starter Drew Pomeranz and two errors by second baseman Alex Yarbrough as No. 15 Ole Miss was able to hold on to a 5-4 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. Booneville edges WVHS in series opener
In Thursday night’s Class 3A North Half showdown between the Blue Devils of Water Valley and Booneville, it wasn’t a string of towering home runs, but a series of perfectly placed taps that made the difference.
Following back-to-back bunt singles that were perfectly placed on either side of the pitcher’s mound to load the bases in the bottom of the seventh, eighth grade catcher Andrew Lambert lofted a ball just out of the infield.
The flare scored Jeiron Jones before the ball had even landed in shallow right field, giving Booneville a 5-4 victory at Harold T. White Field. (May 14, 2010, Page 6A)
No. 15 Rebels head to Alabama still in hunt for SEC West
A lot will be on the line this weekend when the No. 15 Ole Miss baseball team heads east to face the Alabama Crimson Tide for a three-game series beginning tonight at 6:35 at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
For Ole Miss, this weekend’s series is about trying to stay in the fight for the Southeastern Conference Western Division title. For Alabama, it’s about keeping a spot in the SEC Tournament. (May 14, 2010, Page 6A)

Water Valley schools tap new leader
WATER VALLEY — After months of searching and interviewing, the Water Valley School District finally found a successor for Superintendent Sammy Higdon. On Monday, Deborah Moran officially accepted the school district’s offer to lead the school district into the future. She comes to Water Valley from the Hancock County School District. Amory eliminates LHS from 4A playoffs
As Amory second baseman Ryan Hill fielded a chopper cleanly off the bat of Lafayette pinch hitter Dylan Gossett and tossed it to first, the Commodores’ special season came to a disappointing end.
The Commodores were unable to overcome an early deficit on Monday, falling at Amory 5-1 in Game 3 of the MHSAA Class 4A playoffs.
The second round loss eliminated the Commodores (17-12 overall) from the postseason. (May 11, 2010, Page 9)
Lafayette still had season to remember
In the world of sports, more often than not success is measured in wins and losses, titles won and records set.
But in all honesty, there’s much more to sports than what goes in the scoreboard section of a newspaper and this season the Lafayette Commodores proved just that.
Sure, they didn’t make it out of the second round of the Class 4A MHSAA playoffs, but so what?

No. 13 Rebels lose battle for SEC West lead
The most recent battle may have been lost, but the war for the Southeastern Conference’s Western Division title is far from over.
On Sunday, Razorback right-hander Mike Bolsinger led the charge in Arkansas’ 7-0 victory over Ole Miss.
Two days after allowing two runs in 1.1 innings of relief work, Bolsinger — who had began the year as Arkansas’ Friday night starter — was able to keep the Ole Miss bats at bay, surrendering just two hits in 8.0 innings while striking out a career-high 11 batters. (May 10, 2010, Page 1B)
