    Get out of my garden!

    Over the past 25 years urban sprawl has actually been an invasion of the deer’s habitat and in turn urban sprawl has provided lush landscaping and gardens that provide deer with abundant food. The result has been rapid population growth. Master Garderner Susan Boehm suggests experimenting in your garding with plants that deer tend to avoid and offers websites worth checking out. (August 27, 2010, Page 3B)

      The story of North Mississippi College

Last weeks column he wrote about the formation of a new state university in which the Mississippi Legislature voted for Oxford to be the home site.           EMMITT EUGENE “HOOT” WILLIAMS, SR. – 84, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 28, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Sockwell and Rev. Derrick Starnes officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Flat Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

          MATTY IVY BRUCE – 103, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at Graceland Care Center in Oxford. Arrangements are incomplete with Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc.

          AMANDA MCCAIN PIPKIN – 38 , died on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at her home in Coffeeville. Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 27, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Billy McCord and Bro. Raymond Aven officiating. Interment will take place at Goshen Cemetery in Coffeeville. (August 27, 2010, Page 2A)

            Ole Miss announces men’s hoops schedule

            Headliner conference and non-conference matchups fill the 2010-11 Ole Miss men’s basketball schedule, announced by head coach Andy Kennedy on Thursday.

            Ole Miss’ slate of opponents includes nine teams that advanced to postseason play and 10 teams that won at least 20 games last season. Among them are NCAA Elite Eight teams Kentucky and Tennessee, as well as NIT champion Dayton, all of which will be visiting Tad Smith Coliseum in 2010-11.

            A minimum of five contests will be featured on national television, and at least 12 more are slated for live regional TV coverage. Every league game will be televised live. (August 27, 2010, Page 8A)
