The Powerhouse Community Arts Center will host an opening reception for artist Lou Haney at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The show is free and includes a new piece Haney created for the Powerhouse, which is a 24-foot “stained-glass quilt.” (September 13, 2010)

    Ten Minute Play Festival

    Theatre Oxford presents the 2010 Ten Minute Play Festival on Sept. 26. Four local plays will be featured as well as the Grand Prize Winner of the annual National 10 Minute Play Contest.

    The performances will be staged at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26. A closing reception will follow Sunday’s show.

    Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door for adults and $8 in advance or $10 at the door for students and seniors.             United Way Campaign Kick-Off

            The local United Way will kick off its new fundraising campaign from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at a luncheon at the Oxford Conference Center, 102 Ed Perry Blvd. Lunch will be provided by Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi, and the kick-off event is being sponsor by several local businesses. (September 12, 2010)

              More than a Meal Fundraiser

              A fundraiser for the More Than A Meal program will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Rooster’s Blues House on the Square. The fundraiser will feature two-for-one drink specials and all-you-can-eat catfish. Donations will be accepted at the door. Those unable to attend can mail in a donation to PO Box 1880 Oxford, MS 38655. More Than A Meal is a program in which a group of churches have banded together to offer those in need a free meal and other services every Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Stone Center. (September 12, 2010)

                Water Valley storms J.Z. George

                WATER VALLEY— The Blue Devils lopsided 41-14 victory over the J.Z. George Jaguars at Bobby Clark Field on Friday will be a Homecoming night few fans will forget.

Burial will follow be in Crystal Spring Cemetery in Benton Harbor. Family Funeral Home of Benton Harbor is in charge of arrangements.
                  • Lois A. Evans — 74, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Waller Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in North Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 this evening at Waller Funeral Home.

                    McChristian helps lead NWCC Rangers to win

                    Two touchdowns each from Myles White and Jay Jones helped lead the No. 15 Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers to a 41-26 win over East Central Thursday night at Bobby Franklin Field.

                    NWCC (2-0 overall) jumped out to a 19-6 lead in the first quarter but ended up trailing 20-19 at the half. The third quarter proved to be the difference in the game for the Rangers as they outscored East Central 15-0. (September 10, 2010, Page 7A)
