Tupelo Indie Film Series

The Tupelo Indie Film Series presents a screening of “M for Mississippi: A Road Trip through the Birthplace of the Blues,” Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Link Centre Black Box Theatre.     Early Wright Lecture: Tony Bolden

    On Friday, March 26, at 1 p.m., poet and scholar Tony Bolden will give the annual Early Wright Lecture at the Department of Archives and Special Collections Center on the third floor of the J.D. Williams Library on the University of Mississippi campus. Bolden, an associate professor of African and African American Studies at the University of Kansas, was a panelist in several of the early Blues Today Symposia sponsored by Living Blues.

      Household Hazardous Waste Collection

      Do you have any used paint, motor oil, batteries, old computers or household or lawn chemicals around your house?  If so, you may want to mark April 10 on your calendar.  The Three Rivers Solid Waste Management Authority, along with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and the City of Oxford will be sponsoring Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on this date to help you dispose of these items safely.

          Training underway for climb

          Sure, we’re living in the hills of north Mississippi. But when it comes to training to climb one of the tallest mountains in the world, it takes a lot of hills to get there. Abbeville woman Janice Carr is set to climb Africa’s Mount Kilimanjaro this fall, both to fulfill a personal goal and to raise money for Angel Ranch. (March 19, 2010, Page 1A)

            The University of Mississippi Faculty Woodwind Quintet is teaming up with the University of Memphis Woodwind Quintet for a Tuesday performance in Nutt Auditorium. The 8 p.m. program is free and open to the public.

                  Oxford Civic Chorus Spring Concert

                  The Oxford Civic Chorus will present its spring concert, “How Can I Keep from Singing,” Sunday, May 2, at 3 p.m. at North Oxford Baptist Church.                     Free Kidney Screening

                    The Mississippi Kidney Foundation offers a free kidney screening for those with risk factors for kidney disease Thursday at the Oxford Diagnostics Center. Risk factors include, high blood pressure, diabetes or family history of high blood pressure, diabetes or kidney disease.
