Rusty Tutor benefit

A benefit for Rusty Tutor will be held Saturday at the Toccopola Community Center. Tutor, 24, was recently diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma and has just begun treatments. He is married to Tifany Pate Tutor and they have a new baby daughter. The benefit will begin at 2 p.m. with music and food will state being served at 2:30. Eat-in or to-go hamburger plates with chips and beams, and barbecue plates with slaw and beans, as well as barbecue nachos will be available. (September 6, 2011)

    Disaster Preparedness Day

    In honor of September being named as Disaster Preparedness Month, the North Central Mississippi Medical Reserve Corps, Oxford Emergency Management and RSVP will have a tent set up Friday on the Square in front of the Skipwith Cottage with free information on how to prepare for natural disasters. Information about preparing for a disaster will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call either RSVP at 232-2377 or MRC at 232-2476. (September 6, 2011)

      Community Concert

      Everyone is invited to a free concert by The Josh Buford Band at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at First Wesleyan Church, 1740 Jefferson Ave., across from Bramlett Elementary School. The theme for the concert is “Live Out Loud” and will feature original and contemporary music. (September 6, 2011)

          Piecemakers Quilt Guild

          The Piecemakers Quilt Guild will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Fellowship Hall of First Presbyterian Church. The program will be a special 9 Patch Quilt and additional quilting tips will be shared. Guests and visitors are welcome. (September 6, 2011)
