Tuesday’s obituaries

  • Lucile F. Cross — 90, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at the Graceland Care Center in Oxford. A private family memorial service will be held in Birmingham, Ala., at a later date. Browning Funeral Home in Pontotoc is in charge of the local arrangements.
  • Lennie Mae Dickey — died Monday in Horn Lake. Arrangements are incomplete with Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley.
  • Karol Jean Voge — 69, died Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at her sister’s home in Oxford. Services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Tom Groome officiating and Cynthia Coburn will deliver a eulogy. Burial will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service in McFadden Hall of the church. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

    • A.C. Coaten — 83, died this morning at the Yalobusha County Hospital in Water Valley. Arrangements are incomplete with Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford.
    • David Asher Levy Jr. — 81, died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at his home in Oxford. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be for three hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
    • Frances Marie Tucker McEwen — 83, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at her home on Woodson Ridge near Abbeville. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Vicksburg at a later date.

      • Mike “Hot Shoe” Arrington — 58, died Tuesday Sept. 20, 2011, at the Hospice House in Tupelo. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Keownville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Keownville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 this evening at the church. Kesler Funeral Home of Baldwyn is in charge of arrangements.

              Historical, Genealogical Society

              The Lafayette County Historical and Genealogical Society will meet at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium of the Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library, 401 Bramlett Blvd. The speaker will be Betty Wiltshire, newsletter editor for the Carroll County Genealogy Society. She will speak on the topic of genealogy research for African Americans. The public is invited to this free program. (September 19, 2011)
