  • Jefferey Gene Keel — 46, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. Services will be held at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Abbeville. Visitation will be held for 30 minute prior to the service at the church. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
  • Earl “Ken” Kenneth McCullough Sr. — 79, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, in Oxford. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home in Oxford. Burial will follow in North Oxford Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
  • William “Bill” Andrew Reeves — 54, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, in Bruce. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at New Prospect Baptist Church in Oxford. Burial will follow in Kingdom Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 this evening at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford and for one hour prior to Thursday’s service at the church.

        Community comes together to renew nature

        A group of concerned citizens has paired with the developers of the Faulkner Flats project and Strawberry Plains Audubon Center to restore the natural habitat on a section of Whirlpool trails that had been damaged by the development on Old Taylor Road. (October 19, 2014, Page 1A)

          Only in Oxford – Rowan Oak

          Many people know the name of William Faulkner’s Oxford home Rowan Oak, but they may not know its relation to Scottish folklore. According to legend, the rowan tree is a symbol of protection that some believe wards off evil spirits. Keep that in mind if you decide to take a peaceful walk through the Bailey’s Woods Trail that leads to Faulkner’s former home this Halloween. (October 19, 2014, Page 1A)
