  • Lynn D. Castens — 89, died June 12, 2012, at his son’s home near Oxford. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Breeland Funeral Home in Canton. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
  • Catherine Chapman — 91, died Monday, June 11, 2012, at her home. Services will be held at 1 this afternoon at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley.
  • Eva Head Johnson — 101, died today her residence in Oxford. Arrangements are incomplete with Waller Funeral Home of Oxford.
  • Richard Riki Matsufuji — 49, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at home in Oxford. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Waller Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

      • Nora Lynn Nelson Coleman — 81, died Monday, June 11, 2012, at her home in Nesbit. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Broadway Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Memphis Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
      • Betty Jo Gates — 80, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home in Pontotoc. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in Lafayette County. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 this evening and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday.
      • Dorothy Louis Stephens Vines — 85, died Monday, June 11, 2012, at the Pass Oaks Personal Care Home in Pass Christian. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

        • Lawrence C. “Larry” Smith — 69, of Batesville, formerly of Oxford, died Sunday in Collierville, Tenn. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greenview Memorial Chapel in Florence. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
        • Dorothy Louis Vines — 85, died Monday at Pass Oaks Personal Care Home in Pass Christian. Arrangements are incomplete with Waller Funeral Home of Oxford.

          EDF — Still going strong at 20

          The Economic Development Foundation has done a lot to bring and keep businesses in the LOU community in its 20 years of service. On Tuesday, the community will take an appreciative look back at the EDF during the annual meeting of the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Foundation being held at the Oxford Conference Center. (June 11, 2012, Page 1)

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at North Oxford Baptist Church in Oxford. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Sardis. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 this evening at Waller Funeral Home and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
            • Dorothy Callie DeVane — 85, died Thursday, June 7, 2012, at her home in the Harmontown community. Graveside services were held Saturday in Harmontown Cemetery. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
            • John R. “Daddy Bill” Drewrey — 73, died Friday, June 8, 2012, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Services were held Sunday in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home in Oxford. Burial followed in Bluff Springs Cemetery.
            • Cathy Leander Hopper — 39, died Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East in Memphis. A graveside service was held Saturday at Yellow Leaf Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
            • Zula Mae Margie James — 96, died Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home in Oxford. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

                    Trail to Rowan Oak recognized

                    The short trail through the 30-acre Bailey’s Woods that links William Faulkner’s house, Rowan Oak, to the University of Mississippi Museum was recently designated as a National Recreation Trail, which could lead to numerous benefits for one of the community’s most popular hiking paths. (June 5, 2012, Page 1)
