  • Sadie Edna Cobb Atkinson — 94, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Quitman County Hospital. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Crowder Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Crowder cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wells Funeral Home in Batesville.
  • Charles E. Black Sr. — 84, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oxford-University United Methodist Church in Oxford. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. A graveside service is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis. Waller Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
  • Marshall Dublin Johnson — 66, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at his residence in Detroit. Services were held June 9 at Swanson Funeral Home Chapel in Detroit. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit.
  • Levelle Hickinbottom Jones — 67, died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at her residence in Oxford. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at East St. Peter’s M.B. Church in Abbeville. Burial will follow in East St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services at the church. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
  • Ola Mae Savage — 58, died, Monday, June 18, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Philadelphia M.B. Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

    • Willie Clyde “Razzo” Elliott — 87, died Monday, June 18, 2012, at his residence at West Point. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Robinson Funeral Home Chapel in West Point. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.

        • Levelle Hickenbottom Jones — 67, died Saturday at her residence in Oxford. Arrangements are incomplete with Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc.
        • Gertrude Holt Peacock — 97, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at the Yalobusha General Nursing Home in Water Valley. Services were held Sunday in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Burial followed in the Ford’s Well Cemetery in Yalobusha County.
        • Ola Savage — 58, died this morning at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Arrangements are incomplete with Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home of Oxford.
        • Cletis Harold Vinson — 95, died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Bluff Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 till 6 this evening in at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford and for one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

          Twister transforms SWM

          Fourteen months after a tornado destroyed the SWM plant in the Lafayette County Industrial Park, Blauer Manufacturing Co. invested in rebuilding the facility. A grand opening was held Thursday for the new SWM plant, which is much bigger, employs more people and houses more operations. (June 15, 2012)

                    EDF — Still going strong at 20

                    The Economic Development Foundation has done a lot to bring and keep businesses in the LOU community in its 20 years of service. On Tuesday, the community will take an appreciative look back at the EDF during the annual meeting of the Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Foundation being held at the Oxford Conference Center. (June 11, 2012, Page 1)
