  • Peter Wadkin Coleman — 86, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2014. No local services have been announced. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Diana Coleman of Plantation; his children, John Brittain Coleman of Germantown, Tenn., Jennifer Coleman Griffith of Gastonia, N.C., Peter Scott Coleman of Oxford and Michael Craig Coleman of Plantation; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
  • Annetta Hardin — 73, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Clear Creek MB Church. Burial will follow in West Springhill Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.

      This week in Oxford history

      Oxford was honored to host a reception for Eudora Welty at Ole Miss this week back in 1977, and it was also the sad week in 1935 in which William Faulkner’s youngest brother, Dean, was killed in a plane crash near Thaxton. (November 12, 2014, Page 1A)

        • Mary Ethel Kirkpatrick King — 97, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at her daughter’s home in Collins. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Oxford-University United Methodist Church in Oxford. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held for an hour and half prior to the service at the church. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

          • Jack Aubrey Brewer — 97, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Oxford Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Church Grove Cemetery on Pea Ridge Road in Oxford. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 this evening at the church. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

          • Samuel Thomas McCachren Jr. — 84, died Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at his home in Water Valley. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Henry Chapel of the Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Burial will follow in the McCachren family cemetery in Yalobusha County. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

              • Annie Lee “Cricket” Hurdle — 92, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Services will be held at 2 pm. Tuesday at Taylor Baptist Church in Taylor. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5: to 7 this evening at Waller Funeral Home.
              • Hilda Faye Parks Nelson — 85, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014, in Oxford. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home in Oxford. Burial will follow in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held for an hour and a half prior to the service at the funeral home.

                Sunday Focus – Are we ready for Ebola?

                A recent national poll founds that half of those surveyed don’t think their local hospital could safely treat an Ebola patient. Hospital officials in Oxford say it has a communication system is in place with state and federal medical officials and training is ongoing to ensure it is prepared as possible to treat an Ebola patient if one were diagnosed in Oxford. (November 9, 2014, Page 1A)

                    • Helen Elizabeth Starnes — 89, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at her home in the Church Street Manor care facility in Ecru. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home in Oxford. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Springdale cemetery.
