No. 11 Ole Miss defeats No. 3 Alabama in stunning upset

The undefeated Ole Miss Rebels shocked the previously undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide by a score  23 to 17 this afternoon before a national TV audience and a jam-packed Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.     • Annie Ruth Cooper Babcock — 85, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, at Valley View Nursing Home in Madison, Ala. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Union West Baptist Church in Oxford. Burial will follow in Browning Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Waller Funeral Home in Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
    • Juanita Curry — 65, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, at Baptist Hospital in Southaven. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Providence United Methodist Church in Abbeville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 6 this evening at the Serenity-Autry Funeral Home in Holly Springs and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
    • Martha Lucile (Grantham) Jackson — 83, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 11 at the First Presbyterian Church of Oxford. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

      • Ruth Guyton Smith — 91, died on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at the Brighton Gardens Senior Living Center in Columbia. She will be interred Saturday at the Crest Lawn Memorial Garden in Marriotsville, Md.
      • Virginia Anderson Stewart — 77, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at Calhoun City Nursing Home in Calhoun City. Services were held this morning in the Henry Chapel of the Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Burial followed in the Palestine Cemetery in Yalobusha County.

                ‘College Game Day’ headed to Oxford

                ESPN’s “College Game Day” will be in the Grove next Saturday. “For the first time in the pre-game’s show’s history, it will visit Oxford, and make camp inside a sea of tents in the heart of  one of college football’s most iconic tailgating spots when No. 10 Ole Miss hosts No. 3 Alabama,” according to a story that was posted this evening on the ESPN website. (September 28, 2014)
