College Hill Presbyterian Church has a historic place in Lafayette County as one of the oldest churches in the county, and it’s the location of a piece of literary history because it’s where William Faulkner wed. (January 25, 2015, Page 1A)

    • Mary Catherine Alexander — 83, died this morning at Oxford Health and Rehab in Oxford. Arrangements are incomplete with Waller Funeral Home in Oxford.
    • James “Hambone” Brown — 65, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at his home. Services will be held at noon Saturday at the Water Valley Civic Auditorium. Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Water Valley Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 this afternoon at the Eddie Robinson Funeral Home in Water Valley and for two hours prior to the service at the auditorium.
    • Thomas Dudley Kelley — 98, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2015, at his home in Water Valley. He requested a U.S. Naval Military Burial of Cremains at Sea, with Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley in charge of arrangements.
    • Gilbert “Gil” Lomax Sr. — 83, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. Services will be at held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the White Funeral Home in Lumberton. Burial will follow in the Lumberton City Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service.
    • David Gerald “Jerry” Tidwell — 72, died Thursday at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete with Waller Funeral Home in Oxford.

      • Dr. Douglas Charles McClurkin — 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home in Oxford. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held for an hour and half prior to the service at the funeral home.

        This week in Oxford history

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce, with Bro. Stacy Watkins officiating. Interment will follow in Drivers Flat Cemetery in Banner. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 this evening and for one hour prior to the service, all at the funeral home.
            • Erma E. Kuhnle — a resident of Skokie, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Skokie Valley Baptist Church in Wilmette, Illinois. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Donnellan Family Funeral Home in Skokie.
