    • Ora Bell Miles Dawkins — 81, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley. Services will be held at noon Wednesday in the Henry Chapel of the Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

      Only in Oxford – Chicken on a Stick

      The Chevron gas station at Four Corners has been serving Chicken on a Stick for years, but the tasty menu item continues to find more fans. Earlier this month Chevron set a new record when it sold some 800 of the deep-friend skewered chicken tenders. (November 23, 2014, Page 1A)

          • James P. “Skip” Lewis — 65, died Thursday, Nov. 20, 2014. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Mount Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 this evening at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley.
          • Joe E. Martin — 86, died Friday at Oxford Health and Rehab. Arrangements are incomplete with Hodges Funeral Home in Oxford.
          • Eugene McGee — 65, died Friday at his residence in Oxford. Arrangements are incomplete with Serenity-Martin Funeral Home of Oxford.
          • G.W. Miller — 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at NHC in Columbia. A memorial service was held on Oct. 15 at Williams Funeral Home in Columbia, Tenn.

                  This week in Oxford history

                  Rushing the Christmas holiday is nothing new. Back in 1940, The Oxford EAGLE published an editorial welcoming the trend of extending the Christmas shopping season into November. This is also the week back in 1958 when the city announced it would start adding floats to the community’s annual Christmas parade. (November 19, 2014, Page 1A)
