Forty-five years ago, Oxford prepared for the opening of a new wing of its hospital, and two juveniles were arrested for making obscene phone calls in the county. The community also started providing disaster relief to the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Camille hit. (August 20, 2014, Page 1A)

    • Neva Maxine Russell Rhodes — 82, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2014. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 this evening at the funeral home and at other times at her home.

      • Harry Wesley Byrum — 71, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at the Oxford Health and Rehab Center in Oxford. A graveside service was held Monday at the Sturgis City Cemetery in Sturgis. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of arrangements.
      • James Robert Tuttle — 78, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at River Region Medical Center. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home. The visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

              The community was shocked when two police cars were destroyed by an explosive device in August of 1974. The first Faulkner Conference was held and Oxford High School started its first sports program for girls. (August 13, 2014, Page 1A)

                • Thomas Parker Rodenbaugh — 22, died earlier this week. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Madison. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 this evening at the Natchez Trace Funeral Home in Madison and one hour prior to the service at the church.
