  • Betty Fay Bowen — 79, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Services were held this morning at Holly Springs Funeral Home in Holly Springs. Burial followed in Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery.
  • Sherrie Ann Tutor Darby — 56, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at her home in Pope. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. Burial will follow in Forrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 this evening at the funeral home.
  • Janice House Parker — 63, died Thursday at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Arrangements are incomplete with Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford.
  • Dorothy “Dot” Rebecca Bruce Terry — 85, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014, at Oxford Health and Rehab in Oxford. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Burial will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

    Thursday’s obituaries

    • Aline Faccini Alias — 94, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014. Services were held this morning at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Clarksdale, and followed by a private burial in Oakridge Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale is in charge of the arrangements. A reception will be held at the Clarksdale Country Club following the funeral. The family will arrive after the private burial.
    • Betty F. Bowen — 79, died this morning at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Holly Springs Funeral Home in Holly Springs. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service. The rest of the arrangements are incomplete with the funeral home.
    • Reba Fay Matsufuji — 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at her home in Oxford. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home in Oxford. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
    • David Daniel Perkins — 75, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at the Tallahatchie County Nursing Home in Charleston. Services will be held at 2 this afternoon at Wells Funeral Home Chapel in Batesville, with burial to follow at Cold Springs Road Cemetery in Sardis.

      Back in 1995, Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi was about to begin a $22.6 million expansion, while in 1976, the town of Abbeville was born on Oct. 5. These are some of the highlights that took place in Lafayette County during this week in local history. (October 8, 2014, Page 1A)

          • Earl “Poppie” Jones — 84, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at his home in Oxford. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home in Oxford, with the Rev. Freddie Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Flat Cemetery in Oxford. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 this evening.
          • Curtis Wayne King — 62, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, in Jonesboro, Ark. A memorial service will be held at a later date. He will be buried in the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. High Point Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

                    No. 11 Ole Miss defeats No. 3 Alabama in stunning upset

                    The undefeated Ole Miss Rebels shocked the previously undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide by a score  23 to 17 this afternoon before a national TV audience and a jam-packed Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. Ole Miss is now 5-0 for the first time since 1962. Read all about the big win in our special commemorative edition of The Oxford EAGLE on Sunday. (October 4, 2014)
