  • Robert Essie Goolsby — 75, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at East St. Peter MB Church in Abbeville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
  • Rosie Ann Hickey — 76, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the House of Prayer C.O.G.I.C. in Water Valley. Burial will follow in the Yocona Cemetery in Taylor. Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 this evening at the Serenity-Daniels Funeral Home Chapel in Water Valley.
  • W. B. Tallie — 53, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014, at his home in Oxford. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at The Orchard Church in Oxford. Burial will follow be in the Rock Hill MB Church Cemetery in Oxford. Visitation will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday at Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford.

      • Rosie Ann Hickey — 76, died Monday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi. Arrangements are incomplete with Serenity-Daniel Funeral Home of Water Valley.
      • Dr. Frank Thaddeus “Dr. Frank” “Catfish” Marascalco — 91, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, in Clarksdale. Services will be held at noon Thursday at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Clarksdale. Burial will follow in Oakridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the service at the church. Meredith Nowell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
      • Kenny Percell — 59, died Tuesday at his home in West Blocton, Alabama. Arrangements are incomplete with Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford.

          Christmas parade postponed until Tuesday

          The Oxford Lions Christmas Parade, originally scheduled for this (Monday) evening, has been postponed until Tuesday evening due to the rain. All other details about the parade remain the same. The parade is now scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Mid-Town Shopping Center. (December 1, 2014)

                  • Mayva “Sue” Weaver — 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, Tennessee. A family graveside service was held Saturday in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley. A memorial service will be held at 2 this afternoon in the chapel of Hope Church in Memphis. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Seven Oaks Funeral Home of Water Valley was in charge of arrangements.

                    Only in Oxford – Faulkner Statue

                    The iPhone wasn’t introduced until 2007, about a decade after the William Faulkner statue was seated on a park bench outside Oxford City Hall. But since then, the bronze statue has become the ideal spot for selfie-takers from all over the country who want a shot of their mug with the Nobel Prize-winning author. It’s a selfie that you can only get in Oxford. (November 30, 2014, Page 1A)
