Oxford Civic Chorus

The Oxford Civic Chorus invites you to travel with them to France on wings of song. The chorus’s fall concert, “Chantez! A Celebration of French Choral Music,” will be presented at 3 p.m. Nov. 6 at North Oxford Baptist Church on Old Highway 7 north of Oxford. The program, sung in several languages, will showcase an array of choral pieces by French composers from many different eras. For musical theater fans, excerpts from “Les Miserables” will bring a lighter, more popular touch to the show. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.     Suicide Prevention Walk

    The University of Mississippi will aid in suicide awareness and prevention by hosting the second annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk. Together with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, local hosts include the University of Mississippi Clinical Disaster Research Collaborative, Psychological Services Center, Department of Psychology and Psychology Honors Society.

    The walk will take place Nov. 5 in the Lyceum Circle on the UM campus. Registration starts and 8 a.m., opening ceremonies begin at 9, and the 1.5-mile walk through campus starts at 9:30. Following the walk, participants are welcome to enjoy food, live music, and discussion with each other as well as mental health experts from the University and community.

    People can register at by clicking on the “Find an Event Near You” and signing up for the Lafayette-Oxford University Walk.  Registration is free. Proceeds from the Out of the Darkness Community Walk will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. (October 19, 2011)

      Yocona Harvest Festival

      The annual Yocona Harvest Festival will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 29 in the Yocona Community Center, 826 highway 334. The festival will feature games, prizes, concessions, door prizes and a cake walk. Chances will also be sold for a homemade quilt donated by the Yocona Homemakers. A costume contest will be held at 7 and auction will be held at 8. Admission is $1 per person and children, ages 3 and under, are free. (October 19, 2011)

        Regents Autumn Fair

        Regents School of Oxford will have an Autumn Fair on Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. he event will be held at the Regents football field behind College Hill Presbyterian Church. Admission is $5 per person. This will be a fun family event with a lot of activities for everyone, such as a gospel band, storytelling with Miss Jill from Square Books, a children’s jumpy, concessions, a family picture booth, and lots of games, including Go Fish, Football Toss, Soak the Apple, Coca Cola Hoops, a Money Machine, Face Painting, Milk the Cow, Plinco, a CupCake Walk and Spin Art.           Clothing Giveaway

          Rivers’ Hill Church of Christ will host a clothing giveaway from 7 a.m. to noon Oct. 29 at the church. The giveaway will feature fall and winter clothing. Donations to the event are being accepted. For more information, call 380-6486. (October 19, 2011)

            OUS Community Fall Festival

            Oxford University School will host its Fall Festival from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 28 at the school. All families in the Oxford community are invited. The festival will feature food, music, games and a costume contest for the entire family. Catfish plates will be available for purchase for $11 per plate. Take-out plates will also be available. Meal tickets may be purchased in advance by contacting OUS at 234-2200. In case of inclement weather, the rain location will be First Baptist Church Christian Life Center. (October 19, 2011)

              Breast cancer awareness

              Oxford Medical Clinic will host Pink Lemonade Day for breast cancer awareness from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 26. Area residents are invited to stop by to learn how to help prevent or detect breast cancer in the earliest, most curable stages.                 Oxford Art Crawl

                The next Oxford Art Crawl will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Participants will enjoy a night of art and are encouraged to stay for dinner on the Square. Exhibits and receptions are free and participating venues include: Gallery 130 (Meek Hall at the University of Mississippi), the Powerhouse, University Museum and Southside Gallery.                   Flag Ceremony

                  The faculty, staff and students of the Oxford-Lafayette School of Applied Technology invite the community to attend the flag ceremony at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The ceremony, presented by the members of the ROTC programs at Oxford and Lafayette high schools, will be held at the school, 134 Highway 7 South. (October 19, 2011)
