  • Jim Archie Sr. — 68, formerly of Oxford, died Sunday, July 24, 2011, at the Henry County Medical Center in Atlanta. Graveside services will be held at 3  p.m. Saturday at Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of the arrangements.
  • Iler Q.D. Hawkins — 98, died Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at her daughter’s residence in Oxford. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Water Valley Civic Auditorium in Water Valley. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove C.M.E. Church cemetery in Water Valley. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Grove C.M.E. Church. Hodges-Freeman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

    • Marie Mize — 89, died Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011, at Waverly Glen Assisted Living. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hernando Funeral Home in Hernando. Burial will follow at Hernando Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

                  Dean Faulkner Wells dies at 75

                  Dean Faulkner Wells, 75, a writer and editor, died Wednesday afternoon at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford surrounded by family and close friends. She had been placed on life support after suffering a stroke.

                  The niece of Nobel-prize winning author William Faulkner, Wells was the last surviving member of the children of William Faulkner and his siblings.
