OM Rebels want to keep momentum rolling along
Ole Miss will look to continue the momentum it gained in a home win over No. 10 Kentucky against Arkansas on Saturday at Bud Walton Arena.
The Rebels’ biggest win under coach Andy Kennedy on Tuesday against the Wildcats was the first win over a team ranked in the Top 10 since 2002. It may also be the spark needed for the team to rebound from a 1-5 start in Southeastern Conference play. (February 4, 2011, Page 6A)
Year of hard work pays off for Nutt, Staff
A year of hard work on the recruiting trail ended up paying off for Ole Miss football coach Houston Nutt and his staff Wednesday on National Signing Day. Oxford’s Kendricks signs with Ole Miss
A career of hard work and the constant drive to reach even greater heights has resulted in another new opportunity for Oxford High’s Sam Kendricks. The standout pole vaulter, who won the state championship this past season and recently ascended to No. 15 in the nation in the demanding event, was rewarded with his consistent progression with a scholarship from Ole Miss and track coach Joe Walker. Kendricks signed with the Rebels on Wednesday, the earliest a Charger has ever signed a track offer in school history.
Ever since Sam Kendricks’ father and coach, Scott Kendricks, told him that he thought competing in the pole vault would be suit his talents best, Sam has been dreaming of joining the Ole Miss team where his father competed under Walker’s direction. (February 3, 2011, Page 6)
Oxford players ready to take next step in careers
An unselfish attitude, versatility and overall physical skill are just some of the reasons why Oxford’s Monquarious Gipson and Tre’ Carothers are extending their football careers today. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Gipson signed to play for Northeast Mississippi Community College Wednesday, while the 6-1, 175-pound Carothers is heading off to play at ICC. LHS’s Dennis excited to join Lambuth
A chance to play a new position, as well as play for a four-year school relatively close to home, is what made Lafayette’s Austin Dennis chose Lambuth University Wednesday on National Signing Day. Dennis, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound tackle for the Class 4A state champion Commodores this season, said he was excited about the opportunity to play for the Jackson, Tenn., based school and play for Ron Dickerson, Sr., a well respected coach who was the head coach at Temple University. Hyland adds versatility to NWCC’s class
One of the most unsung members of Lafayette’s Class 4A state champion football team was senior offensive lineman Adam Hyland. The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder not only helped lead the team’s outstanding offensive line at center, but he served another important role as the Commodores’ long snapper. Ole Miss football coach Houston Nutt and his staff got National Signing Day off to a great start today as they received letters of intent from 18 players. Leading the list of standout players from Mississippi were South Panola wide receiver Nickolas Brassell (6-foot-1, 175 pounds, 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash), Philadelphia linebacker C.J.
