Library to dedicate marker for Larry Brown

The Lafayette County & Oxford Public Library was designated a Literary Landmark by United for Libraries for its connection to late local author Larry Brown during the summer. The library will hold a reception for the dedication of the landmark on Monday at 5:30 p.m. (November 8, 2013, Page 1A, 14A)

              WVHS downs Tigers, moves to 6-0

              WINONA — Water Valley coach Brad Embry admitted he was concerned about his team playing two games in five days.
              Behind a 274-yard rushing attack and a gritty defensive performance from the Blue Devils, those concerns were put to rest with a 42-10 win against Winona at Tiger Field on Friday night. (September 30, 2013, Page 3B)

                WVHS edges Bruce in another nailbiter

                BRUCE — The concession stands may want to stack up on Pepto-Bismol, or at least TUMS and Rolaids, to help calm the nervous stomachs when Water Valley and Bruce meet again.

                Friday’s backyard rivalry with the Blue Devils and Trojans played out much the same as the previous two contests between the squads with the game undecided until the final minutes of the fourth quarter. The Blue Devils (4-0 overall) came out of Trojan Field with a 22-16 win, but not without a scare. (September 16, 2013, Page 3B)
