The 2017-18 high school soccer season is nearly complete, but Oxford is still earning recognition for their historic run last year.
The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) named Hunter Crane the Mississippi Coach of the Year in girls soccer for the 2016-17 season.
The Lady Chargers had a historic season with a perfect 19-0 season and won their second consecutive Class 5A state championship.
Crane led Oxford to their first ever state titles in program history the past two years.
“I am honored to receive this award and represent Mississippi,” Crane said. “I have been blessed to coach a wonderful group of young ladies. Without them this would not have been possible.”
Oxford (14-6-1) won the Region 1-6A title with a perfect 6-0 record and will host either Madison Central or Northwest Rankin in the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs on Feb. 5.
