Chamber asking for food donations

The Oxford-Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce is challenging Chamber members and the community to a “Phlash Drive Challenge” to collect as much food as they can to be donated to The Pantry, Oxford’s food bank.
“Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday,” said Chamber president Ryan Miller. “It is a time for family, reflection, and true thanksgiving for those things most precious to us. A meal shared with family and friends often lends itself to a sense of gratitude that, quite frankly, seems to be lacking the rest of the year.”
Businesses and individuals are being asked to deliver nonperishable food items to the chamber by 4 p.m. Monday. The food will be delivered to The Pantry on Tuesday morning so it can be dispersed to local families in time for Thanksgiving.
“What better way to give back to our community than contributing to a wonderful thanksgiving meal for those who need it most,” Miller said.
Some items requested by The Pantry are canned fruit, canned tomato products like sauce and paste, pasta, canned pumpkin, soup and canned mixed vegetables.
The chamber is located at 299 W. Jackson Avenue.
