BLOG — Three of the four area high school teams left in the MHSAA basketball playoffs will be on the road Monday and Tuesday nights.
Both the Oxford Chargers and Lady Chargers lost in the Region 2-5A Tournament title games held at Saltillo Friday night. The Chargers lost 57-49 to West Point, while the Lady Chargers lost 46-38 to New Hope. Both are now No. 2 seeds coming out of the region.
The Lady Chargers (14-13) will travel to play Clarksdale Monday night. The Chargers (19-9), meanwhile, will play at Center Hill. Both teams played at Canton to start the playoffs last season, with the Chargers advancing.
Both the Commodores and and Lady Commodores lost their final games in the Region 2-4A tournament Friday. The Lady Commodores fell 60-58 to Ripley in title game. It was the third loss of the year to the Lady Tigers. Lafayette will start the playoffs at home, however, as the No. 2 seed. The opponent will be Shannon, which defeated Corinth 68-35 in the 1-4A girls consolation game Friday night. Tipoff in the LHS gym Monday will be at 6 p.m. If LHS wins, 4A North Half will be held at LHS starting on Thursday.
The Commodores finished as the No. 4 seed out of 2-4A after falling 54-50 to New Albany in the consolation game. Lafayette will now play Corinth on the road Tuesday night to open the 4A playoffs. Corinth defeated Shannon 63-48 to win the 1-4A title. Lafayette did play in Corinth’s gym last year as the Warriors hosted the 4A North Half tournament. Tipoff in Corinth is set to begin at 6 p.m. (February 22, 2014)
