Oxford’s seventh-grade football team defeated Charleston 30-12 Thursday night at Bobby Holcomb Field. Bryson Pearson played a big part in the win for the Chargers as he scored on a run of 42 yards in the second quarter and then returned a fumble 32 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.
Pearson’s first touchdown came after Charleston managed to tie the game on a 60-yard run. Oxford got on the board in the first quarter on a 21-yard pass play from John Reese McClure to Andrew Robinson. The Chargers led 18-6 thanks to a 3-yard run for a score from McClure. Kelvin Wadley capped the scoring for the Chargers in the third with a 12-yard run. (September 6, 2013, Page 8A)
