BLOG — Calhoun City had a 6-0 lead over Water Valley late in the first half. It looked like Blue Devils were going to have their first scare of the young season. Then, quarterback E.J. Bounds and the rest of Water Valley woke up and scored 42 unanswered points for a 42-6 blowout victory over the Wildcats.
The Blue Devils (3-0) scored their first touchdown with 4:40 left in the first half and did not allow another Calhoun City (2-1) score.
“Those guy were fast and it’s hard to simulate that in practice. Once the kids got locked in there, I thought we did pretty well,” Water Valley coach Brad Embry said. “I know the score got a little out of hand, but Calhoun City is good. Sometimes momentum gets you and it got them.”
The Water Valley offense wasn’t the only unit to light up the scoreboard. The defense accounted for 14 points with two interceptions going for touchdowns in the second half to seal the game.
Senior wide receiver/corner back T.T. Person score two touchdowns on both sides of the ball. The first score was a 41-yard pass from Bounds late in the second quarter. Person’s second score of the night was on defense when he caught a tipped ball at the line of scrimmage and ran it 40 yards the other way for the touchdown.
“T.T. had more workouts than anybody this summer. Had a great summer. He was a good player for us last year and improved tremendously over the offseason and summer. I’m so proud it’s showing up for him,” Embry said.
Bounds finished the night with two rushing touchdowns and one score through the air.
