Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze talked about his team’s first Saturday practice of fall drills. Some of the biggest topics of discussion revolved injuries, both to players who have been limited such as CB Charles Sawyer, as well as a broken collarbone suffered by WR Vince Sanders during the session.
Freeze said that seeing Sanders get injured and have to leave practice “ruined my day.” The former standout at Noxubee County was tackled to the ground by a teammate during a 7-on-7 drill. An X-ray later revealed a broken collarbone for Sanders, who will undergo surgery and be out six to eight weeks. Sophomore WR Cody Core stepped up and got more reps with Sanders being out.
Below are statements from Freeze about the practice session and Core’s thoughts on how the offense fared in its second full day of work leading up to the Vanderbilt opener Aug. 29.
