Car wreck claims life of local teen

A wreck on Highway 310 in Panola County claimed the life of a local high school girl and injured four others, according to Panola County Coroner Gracie Grant-Gulledge.

Sarah Bial, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene of the wreck that occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol was on the scene Sunday reconstructing the wreck.

One girl was flown by medical helicopter to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis. Three other girls were transported via ambulance to a local hospital.

Waller Funeral Home in Oxford is in charge of the arrangements for Bial.

Four of the girls are from Oxford High School and a fifth girl was from Magnolia Heights.

A prayer vigil was held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Oxford High School.

Superintendent Brian Harvey issued the following statement Sunday evening on behalf of the Oxford School District:

“We are all saddened by the events of the last 36 hours,” Harvey said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those involved. We will have counselors on hand this week to help students through this extremely difficult time.”
