BLOG – Ole Miss got off to an early lead on the Texas Longhorns less than two months before the two meet on the field.
Ole Miss gained its 2oth verbal pledge for the 2014 signing class this afternoon when defensive end Victor Evans chose the Rebels over the Longhorns. The 6-foot-3, 228-pound Evans, who has 11 offers overall, said Friday morning prior to his entrance at Ole Miss’ single-day football camp that he was impressed with the campus and the feel he was getting from the coaching staff. (Cornerbacks coach Jason Jones is his direct recruiting contact).
Evans, who plays at perennial power Dallas Skyline, said Friday that he was down to Ole Miss and Texas but gave no timetable on his decision. He added he had been enjoying his time in Oxford since his arrival Thursday and during the camp, he and teammate Ty Barrett were entertained by coach Hugh Freeze and linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche as well as introduced to Ole Miss quarterback Bo Wallace during their tour. For the record, Barrett was wearing an Ole Miss baseball cap during his visit and has set a date of Aug. 3 for his decision to be public.
Evans is rated as three-star prospect by Rivals.com and considered one of the top 100 players in the state of Texas for the 2014 signing class by the site. For more on Evans, here is his video interview from Friday.
