HOOVER, Ala. — South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw is very aware that it’s better to have defensive end Jadeveon Clowney on his team. The 6-foot-6, 274-pound Clowney is the nation’s top defensive linemen.
He’s strong, smart and very quick — he was tested in the 40-yard dash Monday and ran a reported 4.45 seconds — and that’s just the half of it.
Clowney is a fierce competitor, according to South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, who raved about his sideline-to-sideline pursuit Tuesday during his meeting with reporters at SEC Media Days.
Shaw, who recently took part in the Manning Passing Camp, was told by North Carolina quarterback Bryn Renner at that camp how lucky he was not to have to game plan against a rushing machine like Clowney (Renner and the Tar Heels open the season against the Gamecocks). (July 18, 2013, Page 7)
