BLOG — A much improved season for the Ole Miss Rebels in Hugh Freeze’s first year in 2012 was noticed by media that cover football in the Southeastern Conference.
A total of five Rebels were selected to the 2013 preseason All-SEC Team by voters at SEC Media Days. Sophomore linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche, Ole Miss’ inspirational leader, was named to the first team on defense. He garnered 94 votes and is joined on the first-team defense at linebacker by Tennessee’s A.J. Johnson and Alabama’s C.J. Mosley.
Senior cornerback Charles Sawyer made the third-team defense as did junior end C.J. Johnson. On offense, junior wide receiver Donte Moncrief was named to the second team, while senior running back Jeff Scott garnered five votes to tie for a spot on the third team.
The Rebels were picked to finish fourth in the SEC West by the media. Alabama was picked to not only win the West title, but the overall SEC Championship this year. Alabama had the most players placed on all of the teams with 16.
