A final tuneup for the Oxford Chargers prior to the start of the 2013 football season could result in national bragging rights. A little less than a month after winning the inaugural Mississippi Invitational in Tupelo, the Chargers travel to Hoover, Ala., to take part in the National Select 7-on-7 Championships.
Oxford is one of 32 teams that will compete in the annual event which includes teams from all over the country, nationally-ranked programs such as the Byrnes (S.C.) Rebels, Evangel Christian from Shreveport as well as teams from as far away as Wisconsin and Connecticut.
Matchups for the two-day tournament will be announced today while pool play is Thursday and the championships will be held Friday. All the games will be played at the Hoover Met or Hoover High School.
